Welcome to Markdale Minor Soccer!

New Soccer Benches

New Soccer Benches

When you visit the Markdale Minor Soccer Complex you will see two shiny new team soccer benches donated by the Jordan Fawcett Memorial Fund. Jordan passed away in November 2010 and her parents, David and Debbie Fawcett, are pleased to see their daughter’s legacy live on in a sport she loved to play and within the Markdale Minor Soccer fields.

Jordan’s mom and dad said the inscription “To the moon and back!” represents Jordan’s love for the game, her enthusiasm, never give up attitude, and positive team spirit. “Jordan was the most enthusiastic cheerleader around, always encouraging her team.”

The Jordan Fawcett Memorial Fund is made possible thanks to the generosity of the community. The fund was created by the Fawcetts to sponsor local athletes to attend camps, and support sports related projects within the community such as the soccer benches. The fund resides with the Grey Highlands Community Fund under the umbrella of the Community Foundation Grey Bruce.

Markdale Minor Soccer

The Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 house league programs continue with the very popular skills, drills and mini-game sessions that we offer to all of the kids in these age groups. The focus of these programs is teaching soccer skills with the emphasis on having fun! These programs are offered once a week, with no travel outside of Markdale in our own house leagues. This program will include RONDO training in 2016. RONDO is an amazing soccer skill training program that was developed in Spain. The kids learn how to pass, control the ball, shoot and develop the core soccer skills in a fun game that has all of the players constantly moving. This is a great way for kids to learn and have fun. We will also continue to offer travel house league soccer in Under 8 and Under 10, as part of the Inter-County Soccer League, for those players that want a second night of soccer each week.

The Under- 12, Under -14, Under -16, Under-20 and Open (Over 20) programs will continue to play in the Lakeshore Soccer League in 2016. This allows our athletes to compete on boys only and girl’s only teams against other house league teams from all over Grey, Bruce and Wellington counties. Our Lakeshore teams had another very successful season in 2015, winning Gold in Under 14 Girls and Men’s Open Division, Silver in Under 16 Girls and Bronze in the U19 Boys teams. Well done!

We had 6 rep teams representing Markdale Minor Soccer in 2015. These included U9 Boys, U10 Boys, U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U11 Girls and U14 Girls. The teams competed against some amazing teams in the South West Regional Soccer League from all over Southern Ontario. It was a fantastic year with many new experiences gained. All of our rep teams are regional teams, meaning that any player from any soccer club in our area may participate. We have players on these rep teams from Saugeen Shores, Owen Sound, Ripley, Walkerton, Hanover, Durham and all over Grey Highlands and Southgate. Everyone is welcome.

If you are interested in your child participating in our rep program, please call Rick at 519-986-2397 or Mils at 519-986-1919. The indoor winter training sessions start in February, so please call today so that your child does not miss out on this wonderful training opportunity and a very fun and challenging soccer experience.

Markdale Minor Soccer is very pleased to be able to offer our players and families the choice to decide on what level of soccer and how many nights per week they wish to participate in. Whether you choose to play no travel house league, travel house league or rep soccer, we will try to make sure that your child has a fun, safe and memorable soccer experience in our program!

Congratulations to all of our teams as you continue to represent Grey Highlands and area and make us all proud!

See you on the fields!

President, Markdale Minor Soccer

U6 Micro and Intro Program: (2010, 2011 & 2012)

The Micro Division is for players ages 4, 5 and 6 years old. This is an introductory program that is split into 2 groups, (Intro & Micro). The Intro program is specifically designed for all new players that are 4 or 5 years of age. It is a great hands-on program that gets parents onto the field and involved with their children. The kids get an opportunity to learn the basic fundamentals of soccer, with the emphasis on having fun and being active. The Micro program is the next step for kids that have played soccer before or are 5 or 6 years of age. They will begin to develop the basic soccer skills including proper kicking techniques, passing and ball control with organized fun mini games of 2 vs 2, 3 vs. 3, etc. to help them understand basic positioning, goal tending and game play. RONDO training will be introduced at this age group.

Under 8 Program: (2008 & 2009)

The Under 8 Division is for 7 and 8 year olds. This is where kids learn the rules of the game, team work, passing, shooting and more advanced skill training to prepare them for soccer games. The Markdale House League allows kids to play soccer once a week in Markdale, (with no travel), including a skills & drills session, followed by a mini game of 5 vs. 5 soccer, in a non-competitive environment.

They play games with referees and begin to understand the various positions, team work, passing and scoring of goals. From our House League, we will offer travel soccer teams from those players that are interested in playing a second night of soccer each week, (*additional cost). These travel teams will compete in 5 vs. 5 soccer games against other local house league teams in the Inter County Soccer League, (Markdale, Mount Forest, Hanover and Durham).

Players must play in the House League to be eligible to play on the travel teams. Travel teams will be offered to all players that want to play, but if there are more players than available spots, we will utilize a try-out process that, among other factors, accounts for maximum numbers of boys allowed and minimum numbers of girls on each co-ed team, to ensure they meet the co-ed requirements. Players in this age group may be asked to A.P. (affiliated player), to the age group above them to help fill out team numbers and replace sick, injured or absent players.

*** Exceptional Player Status - Markdale Minor Soccer recognizes that some exceptional players may be able to play in an age group above their date of birth, so cases will be reviewed on an individual basis. The criteria being the players ability vs. their peers of the same age group, the number of players registered in both involved age groups, the coaches comments, the parents’ permission and final Executive approval.

Under 10 Program: (2006 & 2007)

The Under 10 Division is a natural progression from the Under 8 program and is for kids that are 9 & 10 years old. Kids will continue to learn the rules of the game, learn positions, (ie. defender, striker, rover, goal tender, etc.) in a team environment. The emphasis will be on teaching core skills, including shooting, passing and ball control. RONDO training plays a big role in the training and development of players in this age group.

The Markdale House League will allow kids to play soccer once a week in Markdale, (with no travel), including a skills & drills session, followed by a mini game of 7 vs.7 soccer. They play games with referees on a larger field and begin to understand the various positions, team work, passing and scoring of goals in a non-competitive environment.

From this House League, we will offer travel soccer teams for those players that are interested in playing a second night of soccer each week, (* additional cost). These travel teams will compete in 7 vs. 7 soccer games against other local teams in the Inter County Soccer League, (Markdale, Chatsworth, Mount Forest, Blue Mountains, Hanover and Durham). Players must play in the House League to be eligible to play on the travel teams. Travel teams will be offered to all players that want to play, but if there are more players than available spots, we will utilize a try-out process to select the teams that, among other factors, accounts for maximum numbers of boys allowed and minimum numbers of girls on each co-ed team, to ensure they meet the league’s co-ed requirements. Players in this age group may be asked to A.P. (affiliated player), to the age group above them to help fill out team numbers and replace sick, injured or absent players.

There is now rep soccer being offered in this age group….see “Rep Teams” tab for more details.

*** Exceptional Player Status - Markdale Minor Soccer recognizes that some exceptional players may be able to play in an age group above their date of birth, so cases will be reviewed on an individual basis. Under 12 Program: (2004 & 2005)

This new program will help to transition players from the mini game to full sided soccer in U13 and above. The emphasis of this age group will be on individual skill development and team concepts.

Players in this age group may be asked to A.P. (affiliated player), to the age group above them to help fill out team numbers and replace sick, injured or absent players.
